Master of Physics (or MPhys (Hons) ) honours degree is a specific master's degree for courses in the field of physics

Physics (from Ancient Greekφυσική (ἐπιστήμη)translit. physikḗ (epistḗmē)lit. 'knowledge of nature', from φύσις phýsis "nature") is the natural science that studies matter and its motion and behavior through space and time and that studies the related entities of energy and force Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, and its main goal is to understand how the universebehaves.
Physics is one of the oldest academic disciplines and, through its inclusion of astronomy, perhaps the oldest.Over the last two millennia, physics, chemistrybiology, and certain branches of mathematicswere a part of natural philosophy, but during the scientific revolution in the 17th century, these natural sciences emerged as unique research endeavors in their own right.Physics intersects with many interdisciplinary areas of research, such as biophysics and quantum chemistry, and the boundaries of physics are not rigidly defined. New ideas in physics often explain the fundamental mechanisms studied by other sciences and suggest new avenues of research in academic disciplines such as mathematics and philosophy.
Advances in physics often enable advances in new technologies. For example, advances in the understanding of electromagnetism and nuclear physics led directly to the development of new products that have dramatically transformed modern-day society, such as televisioncomputersdomestic appliances, and nuclear weapons; advances in thermodynamics led to the development of industrialization; and advances in mechanics inspired the development of calculus..
M.Sc. Physics is a postgraduate course based on the study of all branches of Physics. A candidate has to be a B.Sc. graduate in Physics from a recognized university in order to become eligible for this course. M.Sc. Physics is a two-year program. If the course is pursued through correspondence then the duration of the course is two years minimum and three years maximum.

M.Sc. Physics: Eligibility

The candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination by a recognized board and BSc Physics with 50% or above marks in aggregate. The candidate must have passed B.Sc. (General/Programme/B.Sc. (Pass) B.Sc. (H) Electronic, B.A. /B.Sc. (H) Instrumentation B.A./ B.Sc. (H) Electronics with 50% or above marks in aggregate.

M.Sc. Physics: Admission

The admission to the program is based on performance in the Entrance Examination and/or the academic record of the student in graduation.
Some of the Entrance Exams for M.Sc. in Physics is as follows:
CUCET: Central Universities Common Entrance Test is an exam by eight central universities in India.  The application forms are available online from April and the exam is conducted in the month of May.
DUET: Delhi University Entrance exam for Physics is conducted in the month of June. The application forms are available in the month of April.
NITTET: National Institute of Technology conducts an entrance exam in the month of June. The application forms are available in the month of April and the exam is held in May.

M.Sc. Physics Entrance Exam

The entrance exam paper will consist of 100-150 multiple choice and cross-matching type questions. The time duration of the exam is 2.5 to 3 hours. The paper has a negative marking of 0 to 1 for every wrong answer.

M.Sc. Physics Selection Process

Selection to the M.Sc. in Physics program is based on both Entrance Exam (85%) and the academic record of the student (15%) in graduation. Colleges like Sikkim Manipal University which do not take Entrance Exam bases its selection process on the merit marks obtained in qualifying examination.

M.Sc. Physics: Syllabus and Course Description

This course is aimed at imparting knowledge on the fundamental principles of Physics. The course delivery method in M.Sc. Physics include seminars, lectures, workshops and practical lab work.
Students will be required to complete a research project towards the last two semesters and this forms an integral part of the syllabus for the course. In the final evaluation, class assignments, end-semester exams, internships and project reports are taken into account.
